We have started joining the Nature Tribe in their Wednesday ventures.  http://noconaturetribe.blogspot.com/      They are posting different opportunities for outside play experiences and hikes on their FB page.  http://www.facebook.com/groups/382512296136/    We are typically not able to meet at 1:15 (their start time as of late), but we get there at around 2:00 and have not had any issues catching up so far.  Even if we did, we would still take the opportunity to be out in nature exploring!

I am going to come up with some opportunities for Friday ventures again starting next week.  Field trips, hikes, nature play time, park days, etc...   I hope to see you at those too, stay tuned for the plan!!

August/September

Our first schedule! Yeah!

August 26th- 10:00 am Pineridge Park- http://www.fcgov.com/naturalareas/finder/pineridge We will meet in the parking lot and hike/walk around the lake. Pack a lunch, as there are some lovely places to stop in the wooded area.

September 2nd- 10:00 am Butterfly Woods http://www.fcgov.com/naturalareas/finder/butterfly Park in the parking lot West off of Overland Trail Rd. We will meet there cross under the bridge at Overland and then cross the bridge over the Poudre River. The natural area runs along the trail, bring your lunch and we will stop along the way.

September 9th- 10:00 am Horsetooth Falls hike at the Horsetooth Mountain Open Space. Take Harmony Rd East until it turns into County Rd 38E take until you reach the parking lot for Horsetooth Mountain Open Space. (one mile after Shoreline Dr.you will find the parking lot for this hike). http://www.co.larimer.co.us/parks/driving_horsetooth.htm Parking costs $6-7 (I can't remember which). We can hike to the falls or just around that area.

September 16th- 10:00 am Ross Natural Area http://www.fcgov.com/naturalareas/finder/ross Park in the parking lot where Dunbar St. dead ends into Drake Rd. (West of Shields, East of Taft Hill). In Ross Natural area there is a creek to play in, tall prairie grasses, and the Spring Creek trail runs through that area. If you follow the Spring Creek Trail West of Ross Natural area (under the bridge/Drake St) you will find an amazing fountain that artistically displays the water cycle. Either way we hope to see you there!

September 23rd- 10:00 am McMurry Pond- Bring along swimming suits and life jackets if it is warm enough we may have access to the McMurry beach. In years past swimming suits were not necessarily needed as the kids dipped their toes in the river, built sand castles, explored the woods, made fairy houses, ahhhhhh I can hardly wait to go back! If the river is still too high, or the renovations prevent us from getting to the beach, there are plenty of trails to hike, forest to explore, and the Poudre to throw rocks into.

September 30th- 10:00 am Bobcat Ridge- http://www.fcgov.com/naturalareas/finder/bobcat
This is a lovely area South (and a little West) of Masonville. It is a great area to hike on the trails and explore. Again pack a lunch, we will either stop along the trail or at one of the covered facilities.

First Post

Welcome to the Nature Walk Friday Blog. This blog was created to help coordinated fun, fabulous outdoor adventures for my family and our friends. The intention behind the blog is to post the dates, times, and locations for where we will be meeting with other families to go on our nature walks. Make sure when you join us to bring adequate supplies, water, snacks, jackets, umbrellas, boots, sandals, swimming suits, sunscreen, hats, mittens, etc.... There is no such thing as bad weather as long as you are adequately supplied! There may be music, there will be laughter. We also may take advantage of this forum to not only keep track of our weekly Friday adventure but to plan larger field trips and outings. I look forward to seeing you there!
